Sellers' Hat Trick Lifts Villanova Over Georgetown

On Thursday, Oct. 7, in front of 210 fans at Georgetown University, freshman Quinn Sellers scored three goals to lead the Villanova University women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over the Hoyas. The win was the Wildcats' sixth in the last seven games, and improved their record to 11-3-0 overall and 4-1-0 in the Big East Conference.

At the 36:24 of the first half, Sellers' scored the first of her three goals, blasting a shot from 18-yards past Georgetown goalkeeper Shereena Chang. Wildcat goalkeeper Janel Schillig had four first half saves to hold the Hoyas scoreless and send Villanova into the half with a 1-0 lead.

Just 6:54 into the second stanza, Sellers took a feed from senior forward Kathy Minnich and beat Chang from 12-yards to give the 'Cats a 2-0 advantage. Villanova put the game out of reach at the 67:40 as a long pass by Minnich resulted in Sellers' third goal of the afternoon.

Georgetown would finally score at the 77:05 mark of the second half on a goal by Kelly Haden, but it was too late, as the 'Cats took the 3-1 victory

The hat trick was the first of Sellers' young career, and gives her five goals for the season. She is currently tied for second on the Villanova team in goals with five and tied for third in total points with 10.

Getting the victory in goal for the Wildcats was Schillig, who saved seven shots in the game. Schillig has 113 saves on the year for an .869 save percentage.

Taking the loss in net for the Hoyas was Chang, who stopped a game-high nine shots. Georgetown's record falls to 6-6-1 overall and 0-3-1 in the Big East Conference.

Villanova will resume its Big East schedule on Wednesday, Oct. 13, as the 'Cats host Seton Hall at 4:00 p.m.
