Traveling to Milwaukee, Wis., on Friday, Oct. 1, the Villanova University women's soccer team defeated the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 1-0, on a second half goal by senior forward Kathy Minnich. The victory was the Wildcats' fifth in a row and improved their record to 10-2 overall on the season.
The Panthers recorded 10 first half shots, but Villanova sophomore goalkeeper sent away three of those shots to hold Wisconsin-Milwaukee scoreless and send the game into the half tied at 0-0.
At the 66:05 mark of the second half, Wildcat freshman Julie Battista fed the ball to Minnich, who netted her third goal of the season past Panther goalie Elizabeth Ulicki. The Villanova defense held strong for the remainder of the contest, and Schillig tallied six second half saves to seal a 1-0 win for the Wildcats.
Getting the win in net for Villanova was Schillig, who notched her fifth shutout of the season. She finished the contest with a game-high nine saves, giving her 96 for the season. Taking the loss for the Panthers was Ulicki, who saved three shots on the afternoon.
The Wildcats will look to resume their winning streak on Sunday, Oct. 3, traveling to South Bend, Ind., to face the University of Notre Dame at 1:00 p.m.
