In Chestnut Hill, Mass., on Sunday, Oct. 17, the Villanova University women's soccer team lost to Boston College, 4-0, in a game played in front of 400 fans at The Newton Campus Soccer Field. The loss drops the Wildcats' record to 11-6-0 overall.
The Eagles started the scoring just 3:08 into regulation, when Mary Guarino took a pass from Meghan Moore and scored past Villanova goalkeeper Janel Schillig. The game remained 1-0 until the 2838 mark, when Boston College extended its lead in a goal by Katie Murphy, assisted by Guarino and Moore. The Eagles took a 2-0 advantage into the half.
With less than five minutes gone in the second half, the Eagles' Jillian Livolsa gave BC a 3-0 lead, off an assist from Murphy and Katherine Halloran. Boston College put the game away at the 64:10 mark, as Janice Collein scored the Eagles' fourth goal of the day to secure a 4-0 victory. The win improved Boston College's record to 9-5 overall on the season.
Getting the shutout in net of the Eagles was Courtney Schaeffer, who saved four shots on the day. Taking the loss in goal for the 'Cats was Schillig, who stopped a game-high nine shots.
Villanova will resume play on Sunday, Oct. 24, as the Wildcats play host to the Lehigh Mountain Hawks for their home season finale at 11:00 a.m.
