Oct. 10, 1999

Washington, D.C. --- The Villanova University men's soccer team traveled to the nation?s capitol today to take on Big East rival Georgetown University. Unfortunately for the ?Cats, they came away with a 5-1 loss. With the loss, Villanova?s record falls to 2-9-0 overall and 0-7-0 in the Big East.

Down 2-0, Villanova's junior defender Jim Curtin (Oreland, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) fired a 15-yard shot that found the back of the net to bring the visitors within one at 2-1. Curtin?s unassisted score was his third goal of the season. The Hoyas would add another goal to take a 3-1 lead into the half.

Villanova just could not get it going in the second half, and the home team tacked on two more scores to gain the victory, 5-1. Wildcat senior goalkeeper Matt Malek (Dearborn Heights, Mich./Detroit Jesuit) took the loss for the ?Cats.

The Wildcats' next game will be at the University of Notre Dame on Friday, October 15, at 7:30 p.m.
